Participate > Church Programming > Saint John's Retreat Day Experience Saint John's Retreat DayA full day visit to Saint John's has many options. One sample Schedule follows and may be adapted to fit a particular interest or need. PLEASE NOTE: There is a great deal of walking on a college campus. Participants will need to walk from building to building 8:00 a.m. Leave Church by Coach 9:30 a.m. arrive at SJU Alcuin Library Doors 9:30 - 9:45 Bathrooms and Settling In 9:45 - 11:00 Begin in AV1 for short introduction and presentation on The Saint John’s Bible and then into gallery to view pages, reproductions and manuscripts 11:00 - 11:15 Walk to Church 11:15 - 11:45 Short tour of church 11:45 - 12:00 Prep for Noon Prayer 12:00 - 12:15 Noon Prayer 12:15 - 12:30 Walk to Lunch 12:30 - 1:30 Lunch: Menu - Deli Buffet (make own sandwiches) with Chicken Dumpling Soup, Dessert Bars, Coffees and Tea, Milk, etc. - Cost will be $8.75 per person. 1:30 - 3:00 Visio Divina This session leads participants through the process used to develop the images in The Saint John’s Bible. It is akin to a visual Bible study experience. A very brief overview of the project is included, but the session focuses on one Bible passage and the accompanying art work from The Saint John’s Bible. Participants read the passage, discuss the passage with visual thinking questions and read the SJU theological brief the artists of the project use as they prepare an image. After discussion and exploration, participants are given time to work with the passage independently and finally to share. The artwork from the Bible is then explored and its development explained and discussed. 3:00 – 4:00 Group invited to tour at large - Some may wish to walk the lake, some the pottery, etc. HMML Hosts will guide to areas. 4:00 Bus leaves from front of Abbey Church and departs for home 5:00 – 6:00 Arrive at Home Church. Costs for the Retreat Day: Lunch: Approximately $8.75 per person, Suggested Donation for day programming: $3.00 per person. If you wish each person to receive a loaf of Johnny Bread as they leave at the end of the day, add an additional $3.00 per person. Maximum Number of Guests for Retreat Day: 50
