Book Arts Fair

This is a drop-in-and-see type of event.  The display may contain the following: 

Video Station in common area outside of the display space – Looped video of In the Beginning plays continuously.     

Framed Images with Didactic Panels

  • Four Gospels (4)
  • Psalms Frontispiece
  • Creation
  • Garden of Eden
  • Adam and Eve
  • Ten Commandments

Display

  • Tools photoboards – on own
  • Vellum samples – on own
  • Quill  samples with cutting photographs
  • Guilding materials

Handwriting Sample Page – Host explaining  

Full Size Facsimile Copies – Host explaining

  • Gospels and Acts
  • Pentateuch
  • Psalms

Scribe Demonstrations

  • Two Scribes doing Names on Book Marks
  • Scribe Demonstrating Hands and Techniques (blending inks, guild, etc.)
  • Hands on exploration area for participants to try writing with quills

Time:  Determined by host site, usually three to four hour block of time

Audience Size:  Unlimited

Host Site Provides:  Large common room, multiple tables and chairs, 8-10 volunteers, stipends for calligraphers and artists, TV with DVD player, advertising, set-up and take down assistance. 

SJU Provides:  all materials, three to five presenters, artist arrangements, set-up and display

Costs:  A minimum of a $500.00 honorarium to the Bible project is requested plus all mileage costs paid at 48.5 cents per mile for SJU staff.    (An average trip to the Twin Cities runs between $70.00 and $80.00) Each calligraphy artist is paid $100 for the day. ($300 - $500 total artist costs) Lunch costs for artists and SJU staff and any costs for overnight accommodations (if necessary) are paid by the host site.
