Calderhead Essays
Calderhead graduated from Princeton University in 1984 in Art History. He then attended Seabury-Western Theological University in Evanston, Illinois, were he received his Master of Divinity and is an Episcopal priest.
A native of New York City, New York, Calderhead moved to England where he studied calligraphy and bookbinding at Roehampton Institute. In 1988, he was elected a fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators, a London-based organization. He has been the assistant curate of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Cambridge, England, and currently serves at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Roosevelt Island, New York. Calderhead continues to explore the living tradition of the letter as a freelance graphic artist and assistant Arts Editor of the Anglican Theological Review. His work has been exhibited in England and the United States in group shows, and once at a solo exhibition at Queens College Library in New York City. Calderhead continues to teach calligraphy and was recently a faculty member at a calligraphy conference in San Francisco. "When I visited Saint Johns and met with the CIT and the Bible Council, I was struck for the first time by how few projects in my life have brought all these strands together," noted Calderhead. "Most places I go those strands are separate. This is terrific." Calderhead has visited with Donald Jackson and the scribes in Wales three times since he began writing and documenting the making of the Bible. His feature articles will appear regularly in The Saint Johns Bible newsletter and will cover a variety of topics on the making of the Bible. |
