There are buds on the vines as creation was just beginning to know itself. Creation was in harmony with God. If you will notice there are a few breaks in the vine as sin is entering into the world. We drew the first letter in black to represent evil and the snake to represent sin coming into the world. The picture of Adam and Eve has a little laughter about it as we think this is a very serious passage but written in a way to tell a serious story with a twist. Illustrated to show the story, the borders on the first page is the water adn the peace before the flood. Second page is everyone and animals coming off the boat and there is a rainbow as a sign of God's covenant. Notice the large letter on the third page. Once again the covenant and all the animals. On the first page, we decided to use the drawing of lighting as the Covenant broke the chains of slavery--lightening is powerful enough to break through the chains. The lightening represents God. There is both struggle and hope and that is in the border. On the second page we drew a wolf to represent evil and a dove to represent good. We are always in a struggle between good and evil and teh commandments show us a way to let good overcome evil. The sunrise and the Sunset is that God is the Alpha and the Omega--the Beginning and Ending of everything. Since the commandments are about God having us be apart of the beginning and the ending. The border on the first page represents earth and the connetion to heaven. We did that because it connected to the words and message of the passage. We drew a picture of the earth because Solomon preached on earth and he is preaching towards the high heavens to all the people. The light from heaven is shining down on Solomon's hands as he preached to all the people of Israel. We drew night and day because in the passage it says that God watches over us both night and day. Picture 1 - Praise him, all his angels, sun, moon & shining stars Picture 2 - Praise him, all you shining stars (the constellations) Picture 3 - Praise the Lord from earth Picture 4 - Stormy winds fulfilling his command Picture 5 - Praise the Lord you sea monsters and all deeps Picture 6 - Praise the Lord, fire and hail Picture 1 - Mountains and all his hills Picture 2 - Fruit trees and all cedars Picture 3 - Wild animals and all cattle Picture 4 - Young men and women alike, young and old together Picture 5 - Wild animals and all cattle Picture 6 - His glory is above earth and heaven The dove is the spirit of the Lord. A child shall lead them so we drew things that children lpay with along with bad things. The child things win out. The dove is the spirit of the Lord. Trumpet: Blow your trumpet in Zion -calling forth an assembly. The hands around the world -Lord caring for his people and creation. We chose the word on teh border because we could not think of a picture that described teh Beatitudes in a really good way. We thought the words said it all, so we chose to use the words. We chose the illuminated first letter of every Beatitude because we watned to make them stand out more. We chose the Beatitudes because we studied them. Sun -we are the light of the world. Salt shaker -we are called salt of the earth with the love of Jesus. The border is brightly colored because we are the light shining. We also used sun flowers around the first letter because of the light themes. Borders tell teh complete story of the reading. Take time to look closely at the border adn teh littel things that we hope bring you inspiration and humor. People giving alms, prayer and fasting. One side are the hypocrites and the other said the people who give in secret. The hypocrite is blowing his own horn -fire is the only reward of the hypocrite. Second page begins with the Holy Spirit -who we are in our giving. Bottom of the page is happiness as those who give in secret give the right way. The lighthouse is the symbol of God lighting our way -we are to follow the light. We are not going to tell you any more, keep on looking. We drew a world as the Our Father is a prayer for the world. The dove is a symbol of peace. Roses are of love -there is one different rose- so we remember that we do not all come to God the same way. First page has the picture of the main idea of the story. The big first letter has the baskets. The final page is all the people who now have the bread. "Who has the bread?" "We all have the bread." First page has the picture of the main idea of the story. Our first grade classroom has a large drawing of Jesus with teh little children and it is a story we learn during the school year so it was a familiar and popular story to use for the Bible project. After choosing a few illustrations that children drew, every student printed a few words fo the story and everyone helped decorate the border. The words are the main idea of the reading. All the symbols are of Jesus and he gave us a new way to live. See the stained glass window (like at Holy Spirit Church). We are all the pieces and if we love one another (the light is the light of love) then we become one beautiful gift for God. The words are the main idea of the reading. The kdis wanted to illustrate the last supper and bread and wine for the reading of the Last Supper. The kdis wanted to illustrate the last supper and bread and wine for the reading of the Last Supper. We thought the words of this passage were the most important. We could never match the image in the St. John's Bible, so we chose some of the best calligraphers in our group to carefully write out the words. We used our art in the borders in teh circle cross symbols. We tried to place them near strategic words in the reading. We tried to use various styles of crosses. The flowers are not complete but in buds. Through the Crucifixion we have a beginning of newness - death did not conquer all. Page 1 -the two borders are the seeds before they were scattered. Picture 1 - The bird is flying over the path looking for food. Picture 2 - The sun shining on the rocky, dry ground before the seeds fall. Picture 3 - The thorny plants growing and reaching to the sun, before teh seeds fall. Picture 4 - The sun shining on the good soil where long green grass is growing fresh and healthy. Page 2: The sower, who is like Jesus, is dropping and scattering the seeds. Picture 1 -Some seeds fall on the path where the bird lands and the bird grabs it up before it has a chance to grow. Picture 2 -Some seeds fall on rocky ground where it starts to grow but it soon bends over and then comes right out of the ground and dies. Picture 3 -Some seeds fall on throny plants and "the mean" plants choke off the little plants that are trying to grow so they can't grow to big plants. Picture 4 -Some seeds fall on the good, rich soil and their roots grow really deep and strong so healthy plants grow, nice and green with yellow flowers reaching up to the sun. The two borders on this page are rich healthy plants growing from the seeds. Our lesson is that we want to be like the seeds in hte rich soil; that is to hear and listen to Jesus' words and his message to us--to be kind and loving to each other, to become followers of Jesus. The first page represents the text of teh Transfiguration. We started the path up the mountain on that page --it represents the path to heaven. We chose tents to represent Elijah and Moses. We drew symbols by the tent that were symbols of teh person for whom the tent represented. The tent with the gold around represents Jesus -as we think this is about when Jesus will be recognized as divine. The light coming down from the heavens represents God's presence in this whole event. The reason for the colors is that we thought they looked good together. Mark 16, The Story of Lazarus, Grade Three Star light is the light of David -Mary is the light of David. Roses represent mary and the love she brings to the world with her yes. Butterfly to remind us of the resurrection -as the birth of Jesus is also tied with his death and resurrection. Star light is the light of David -Mary is the light of David. We wanted this project the peace, joy and hope of the Christmas story. We chose colors that were traditional as this is a traditional story. Border: Blue with stars -and at the bottom -the shepherds -as they were in this account. There is one large star to represent the angel summoning the shepherds. We chose the colors of the illuminated letters to reflect all the peace, joy and hope that we had given in the pictures come through the reading. Borders are the prediction of the death and resurrection. Cross the dying and sun and flowers the resurrection picture is of Jesus fulfilling his promises. The first letter was done in colors of hope to show Christ is coming to bring compassion to the world. We think the main idea is "who is my neighbor" and now we have a new law and that is compassion over duty to the law. Because of this we made a world with people joining hands -as the world is our neighbor. We chose the vine for teh border because it artistically worked, also Jesus is the vine and we are the branches and we thought the news of treating your neighbor with compassion irregardless of law was the message going through the vine. The quote we took our illustrations from was "Were not our hearts burning within us?" The burning hearts resemble God's everlasting love. The illuminated N is doen with three different ideas and resembles the Trinity and Unity -because it is 3 ideas combined into one. The diagonal border resembles the breaking of bread when Jesus was revealed to the disciples. The people are with Jesus and Jesus is in gold as he is now divine. Jesus revealed himself to the apostles and as he became known to them, their hearts were burning within and they recognized Him. Rather than draw specific pictures to illustrate this passage, we chose to use colors as symbols of the various people. Red and blue are the Samaritans and the Israelites. When we blend them together it is the joining together of all under a new covenant. We know this reading is about water, but we choose to represent all the life that water gives. We used a mountain because the great times with God took place on a mountain. The cross and hourglass symbolize that waiting for the hour to come. We though the hour is the crucifixion and the crucifixion brings us closer to the resurrection that is hinted in the hills. The sun that joins both pages is the symbol of truth that must be present if one is to understand these words. All the images we think of when we read of the Last Supper. We began by putting clouds around our illuminated letter because Jesus was lifted up to heaven. We put a burning heart around the world to show that God is surrounding us in our lives. We put hearts and clouds for the border to show the pathway to heaven. The second page has the gates of heaven. All the bricks of the gate are colored individually as we wanted to show that heaven is not just a mass of people but the individual spirit of all people who have come to God. Also everyone is welcome at the gates of heaven. We put the Trinity in front of it to show that when Jesus ascended into heaven he was part of God and part of the Trinity: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There is a circle to show that they are unending. We added the lightning bolts to symbolize how strong our love is with God. We continue to show the smoke going up to heaven as incense. In Genesis we have the sacrifice not acceptable to God, but now Jesus is the greatest sacrifice and the smoke goes up and to heaven to God. the fire of course is the symbol of the spirit also accompanied by a wind. Gold is the presence of God. Dove is the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Dove is from teh Holy Spirit Parish Mural. the fire of course is the symbol of the spirit also accompanied by a wind. The border symbolizes the temple of God where we worship. Gifts of the Holy Spirit. We did the icon to make a connection with the parish. We drew our parish symbol. We used words from our parish marble signs. The gifts are written in gold as they are God and help us to become of God. We started with a mountain, then we wanted to make an abstract mountain, then the picture went sideways and no. We like the picture, but now we need to read meaning into our own drawing. The light is the path of God, the dark is what is left behind--darkness is also sin and what holds us down. The arrow was the mountains but as an arrow it is the righteousness of God shooting through the light and dark and working with us on our journey. Icon of Cross: we wanted a different art form. The reading is about things that are holy ad we thought of something that represents holy to us and we thought of the cross and the rosary. The Dove: As the dove represents the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit is encircling the world. Each world has a different picture of a particular continent. Worlds we drew: The worlds and sun throughout the border as the readings mentions that we are the foundation of the world, each world shows a different continent. The final picture: The world is us and all creation. The finger of God is God's hand choosing us. Yellow is the light spreading throughout the world. Gold around the work is God's love encircling the world. All creation is holy. Icon of Cross: we wanted a different art form. The passage says we will have anxiety. God takes away oru sins and taeks away the binds and the thorns. If we believe the words of this passage, we too can free ourselves of the thorns. Flower Border: Rejoicing symbolizes happiness. Flowers are happiness; flowers are life-giving. Giving Border: This is how we release ourselves of the thorns. In the end we should have peace. We wrote the word Peace in all the different languages of the world. This is to say that God's word is for everyone. They chose a heart border for Beloved. The word with children holding hands represents all people of the world equal in the eyes of God. They chose a heart border for Beloved. The word with children holding hands represents all people of the world equal in the eyes of God. We tried to make the pages to reflect that the passage speaks to all of the four corners of the world. The reading talks of bringing all people together and a great crowd coming before God. Angels: There are four angels from the four corners of the world -north, south, east and west. These angels are given the power to destroy land and sea. Faces: Represent the crowd of people. Some have crosses. Those are marked with teh seal of God. The people are muted in color to blend in with the moving up to God.
